HOBBY
COLOROBBIA®'s underglaze: Bisque-Stroke® underglaze
and underglaze sticks.
Both
the Bisque-Stroke® underglazes and the underglaze stick are
designed to be used on bisque ware.
Bisque-Stroke®
underglazes (series 400) are highly concentrated colors specifically designed
for use on bisque, then glaze is applied and fired to the maturing temperature
of the glaze, usually to cone 05-07. Bisque firing colors before glazing
is not necessary; just use caution in the glaze application. Because these
underglazes have such a wide variety of uses, the consistency is adjusted
according to specific techniques.
These
underglazes are also traditionally used for design work over unfired HC-0147
Arctic White glaze and then fired. This technique is called majolica. Other
popular techniques for the Bisque Strokes are brushwork, antiquing, and
china painting effects.
When
Bisque-Stroke®
underglazes are thinned for use, the colors are vibrant, sheer, and translucent.
These characteristics make them ideal for brushwork and design.
PACKAGING
TheBisque-Stroke
® underglazes are available in plastic containers in the following
sizes: 1/2 oz.-15 ml.; 16 oz.(pint)-473 ml. Squeeze bottles: 1 oz.-29,5
ml., 8 oz.-236 ml.
PREPARATION
Shake
well before use. If needed, thin colors with a few drops of water and/or
HC-0001 Transparent glaze to a creamy consistency. The thinning with transparent
glaze is ideal for majolica techniques or for a more translucent color.
METHODS
OF APPLICATION AND USE
BRUSH
WORK:
Mix
Bisque-Stroke®
underglazes, as mentioned above, to the proper consistency for the technique.
Load brush with conditioned underglaze. Apply strokes to matured bisque
ware. If brush drags while performing a brush stroke, the color is still
too thick. Thin with a little more water and/or transparent glaze to achieve
a more workable consistency. When design is finished, glaze with a transparent
or transparent colored glaze and fire to witness cone 05-07.
ANTIQUING:
Mix
the Bisque-Stroke® underglaze with water to achieve a wash consistency.
Apply conditioned color to matured bisque using as large a brush as possible.
Use a clean, damp sponge to wipe the piece down, leaving the color in the
crevices. Keep the sponge clean at all times to insure clean highlights.
When the piece is dry, glaze with a transparent clear or transparent colored
glaze and fire to witness cone 05-07.
AIRBRUSHING:
The
Bisque-Stroke®
underglaze colors are ideal for airbrush decoration. For airbrushing, thin
to approximately one part water to one part color. This mixture will vary
according to airbrush and technique employed. Airbrush color over the surface
of the bisque ware until the desired color is achieved, glaze, and fire
to glaze maturing temperature. Burn out can occur if colors are applied
too thin. Always airbrush in a properly ventilated area with an exhaust
fan, and wear a mask and apron for safety.
UNDERGLAZE
STICKS
Underglaze
sticks are highly concentrated underglazes formulated in a dry stick form.
These underglazes are designed for use on bisque ware for drawing, shading,
and blending. Underglaze sticks are to bisque what pastel chalk is to paper.
They are available in 18 vivid colors and can be blended to achieve different
tones and values.
Underglaze
sticks lend themselves to many interesting techniques. They can be sharpened
by lightly rubbing on a fine piece of sand paper for detail and fine lines.
PACKAGING
One
box of 18 colors.
METHOD
OF APPLICATION AND USE
Underglaze
sticks are used for drawing directly onto mature bisque ware. They are
applied by rubbing the stick over the surface of the bisque, depositing
the color. Then, if desired, blend and shade with finger or dry brush to
achieve the desired effect. Once work is finished, bisque fire to set colors
and then glaze over with a transparent gloss or matte glaze and refire
to maturing temperature of the glaze, generally cone 05-07.
For
other methods af application, follow specific techniques. |
