Stoneware Combinations

 

Browse through this gallery to view some of the beautiful combinations possible with Mayco Stoneware Glazes when fired on white stoneware clay, fired to cone 6 in oxidation.

Storm Gray over Sea . . .
				
Storm Gray over Sea Salt

Process
3 coats of SW-118 Sea Salt were brushed to the left ⅔ of the tile.
After the Sea Salt has dried, 3 coats of SW-137 Storm Gray Emerald were brushed over the right ⅔ of the 
tile, with Storm Gray brushed lightly over the Sea Salt intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
This combo will produce a variegated and lustrous gray with ivory patterning amongst crystal bursts from 
Sea Salt. Where the combo breaks over texture, more ivory is exposed with an overlay of variegated gray. 
Finishes to a smooth feel and fluxes where the glaze is heavy. This combo has movement but it stable 
enough that it will not run off a vertical surface. 

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired vertically. 

Horizontal surfaces may yield more variations of gray overlay.
				

Emerald over Smoke

Process:
3 coats of SW-121 Smoke were brushed to the right ⅔ of the tile.

After the Smoke has dried, 3 coats of SW-210 Emerald were brushed over the left ⅔ of the tile, with Emerald brushed lightly over the Smoke intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
This combo will produce a tessellation of blue, browns, and green hues. Where the combo breaks over texture, more brown hues are exposed with an overlay of blue and green shade showing. Finishes to a smooth feel and fluxes where the Smoke is heavy. This combo has movement but it stable enough that it will not run off a vertical surface. Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired vertically. Horizontal surfaces may yield more variations of blue hues with brown overlay.

				

Olivine over Charcoal

Process:
3 coats of SW-209 Charcoal were brushed to the right ⅔ of the tile.

After the Charcoal has dried, 3 coats of SW-127 Olivine was brushed over the left ⅔ of the tile, with Olivine brushed lightly over the Charcoal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
This combo will produce a tessellation of blue, browns, and green hues. Where the combo breaks over texture, clay surface characteristics are visible with an overlay of browns and blue colors showing. Finishes to a smooth feel and fluxes where the Olivine is heavy. The combo have movement but it stable enough that it will not run off a vertical surface. Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired vertically. Horizontal surfaces may yield more variations of blue hues with brown overlay.

Coral over Sea Salt

Process:
3 coats of SW-118 Sea Salt were brushed to the right ⅔ of the tile.

After the Sea Salt has dried, 3 coats of SW-205 Coral was brushed over the left ⅔ of the tile, with Coral brushed lightly over the Sea Salt intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
This combo will produce a variegated mixture of pink hues with crystal flecks from SW-118 Sea Salt. Finishes to a satin feel and fluxes where the Sea Salt is heavy. The combo have movement but it stable enough that it will not run off a vertical surface. Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired vertically. Horizontal surfaces may yield a more dapple, white texture.

 

Storm Gray over Cordovan

Process:
3 coats of SW-128 Cordovan were brushed to the right ⅔ of the tile.

After the Cordovan has dried, 3 coats of SW-137 Storm Gray were brushed to the left ⅔ of the tile, with Storm Gray brushed lightly over the Cordovan intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
This combo will produce a mottle of white and golden brown. Where the combo breaks over texture, a burgundy color will show more visably. Finishes to a satin feel and fluxes where the Cordovan is heavy. The combo have movement but it stable enough that it will not run off a vertical surface. Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired vertically. Horizontal surfaces may yield a more dapple, white texture.

Polished Pebbles over Wintergreen

Process:
3 coats of SW-135 Wintergreen were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Wintergreen dried 3 coats of SW-126 Polished Pebbles were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Polished Pebbles brushed lightly over the Wintergreen intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
This combo will produce a toffee glaze finish with floats of iridescent light purple. The combo has movement but is stable enough that it will not run off a vertical surface. Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Green Opal over Blue Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Blue Opal dried 3 coats of SW-253 Green Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Green Opal brushed lightly over the Blue Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The Blue Opal forms circular patterns within a green-blue field.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Cordovan over Blue Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Blue Opal dried 3 coats of SW-128 Cordovan were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Cordovan brushed lightly over the Blue Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Beneath a predominantly clear upper level a greenish-brown crackle pattern develops below. Bands of metallic float form where glaze interaction is heavier.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Purple Mint over Blue Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Blue Opal dried 3 coats of SW-125 Purple Mint were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Purple Mint brushed lightly over the Blue Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Recessed areas of deeper blue are enveloped by a fields of a dark purplish-blue .

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

White Opal over Root Beer

Process:
3 coats of SW-203 Root Beer were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Root Beer dried 3 coats of SW-250 White Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with White Opal brushed lightly over the Root Beer intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Whispy clouds of White Opal glide over a softened caramel sky.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Robin's Egg over Copper Ore

Process:
3 coats of SW-133 Copper Ore were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Copper Ore dried 3 coats of SW-116 Robin's Egg were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Robin's Egg brushed lightly over the Copper Ore intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The interactive area is dominated by brownish-taupe dots, spots and patches.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Silver Sage over Mirror Black

Process:
3 coats of SW-132 Mirror Black were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Mirror Black dried 3 coats of SW-102 Silver Sage were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Silver Sage brushed lightly over the Mirror Black intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
A pebbled, brown leather texture forms that is both visual and physical in nature.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Cordovan over Birch

Process:
3 coats of SW-131 Birch were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Birch dried 3 coats of SW-128 Cordovan were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Cordovan brushed lightly over the Birch intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
A variegated, mottled pattern of blue and rust develops, with very pronounced bands of rusty orange appearing.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

 

Cinnabar over Birch

Process:
3 coats of SW-131 Birch were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Birch dried 3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Cinnabar brushed lightly over the Birch intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The Birch forms creamy beige floes that float on a red sea.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Copper Ore over Speckled Plum

Process:
3 coats of SW-113 Speckled Plum were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Speckled Plum dried 3 coats of SW-133 Copper Ore were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Copper Ore brushed lightly over the Speckled Plum intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The two glazes swirl and blend, occasionally forming pools of Speckled Plum.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Pink Opal over Alabaster

Process:
3 coats of SW-106 Alabaster were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Alabaster dried 3 coats of SW-251 Pink Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Pink Opal brushed lightly over the Alabaster intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The interaction did not change the pink hue of Pink Opal very much; the reaction creates an intricate, webbed visual texture

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Pink Opal over Frost Blue

Process:
3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Frost Blue dried 3 coats of SW-251 Pink Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Pink Opal brushed lightly over the Frost Blue intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The Pink Opal turns a greyish-blue with streaks of indigo forming at the initial edge wear the colors meet.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Copper Ore over Cinnabar

Process:
3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Cinnabar dried 3 coats of SW-134 Copper Ore were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Copper Ore brushed lightly over the Cinnabar intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The Copper Ore moved quite a bit over the Cinnabar. A light-to-root beer brown developed, capturing enclosed pools of red within the field of brown.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Birch over Stoned Denim

Process:
3 coats of SW-101 Stoned Denim were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Stoned Denim dried 3 coats of SW-131 Birch were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Birch brushed lightly over the Stoned Denim intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Distinct cells of light blue form, cell boundaries marked by beige outlines.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Frost Blue over Green Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-253 Green Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Green Opal dried 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed lightly over the Green Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
A field of dark blue field appears, accented with areas of green and pewter.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Maycoshino over Blue Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Blue Opal dried 3 coats of SW-122 Maycoshino were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Maycoshino brushed lightly over the Blue Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Maycoshino turns a brown-taupe color and allows Blue Opal to form blue pools within.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Speckled Plum over Blue Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Blue Opal dried 3 coats of SW-113 Speckled Plum were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Speckled Plum brushed lightly over the Blue Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Speckled Plum turns a reddish-tan as it floats over the Blue Opal.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Cinnabar over Copper Ore

Process:
3 coats of SW-133 Copper Ore were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Copper Ore dried 3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Cinnabar brushed lightly over the Copper Ore intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
A speckled black band forms beneath the Cinnabar.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Cordovan over Mirror Black

Process:
3 coats of SW-132 Mirror Black were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Mirror Black dried 3 coats of SW-128 Cordovan were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Cordovan brushed lightly over the Mirror Black intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
A visual and physical textured silvery snake-like skin forms in the middle band

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Birch over Cordovan

Process:
3 coats of SW-128 Cordovan were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Cordovan dried 3 coats of SW-131 Birch were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Birch brushed lightly over the Cordovan intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
A beautiful blue foam forms on a creamy tan base - very intriguing visual, like a colorful tide receding to the ocean.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

White Opal over Northern Woods

Process:
3 coats of SW-120 Northern Woods were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Northern Woods dried 3 coats of SW-250 White Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with White Opal brushed lightly over the Northern Woods intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The White Opal picks up a blue coloration and develops a porous pattern - as if the color was dabbed on with a fine sponge.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Green Tea over Pink Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-251 Pink Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Pink Opal dried 3 coats of SW-108 Green Tea were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Green Tea brushed lightly over the Pink Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The Green Tea breaks and floats over the Pink Opal, picking up golden-green accents in heavier application areas.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Pink Opal over Green Tea

Process:
3 coats of SW-108 Green Tea were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Green Tea dried 3 coats of SW-251 Pink Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Pink Opal brushed lightly over the Green Tea intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Hints of purple emerge in heavier areas; light coverage develops a porous pattern,allowing the green to show through.

Pink Opal over Black Walnut

Process:
3 coats of SW-104 Black Walnut were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Black Walnut dried 3 coats of SW-251 Pink Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Pink Opal brushed lightly over the Black Walnut intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Pixelated dark greens and blues float on top of the Black Walnut, creating a reptile-like skin visual texture.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Pink Opal over Silver Sage

Process:
3 coats of SW-102 Silver Sage were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Silver Sage dried 3 coats of SW-251 Pink Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Pink Opal brushed lightly over the Silver Sage intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Seafoam green with hints of gold (where application is thickest - bottom edge); where the application is thinner (upper edge) the green tends to float and allow glimpses of pink to show through.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Root Beer over Rutile Wash

Interaction:
Root Beer over Rutile Wash: an earthen landscape full of physical textures. Some parts are dry and raspy to the touch; lots of physical character in the surface.

Process:
3 coats of SW-203 Root Beer was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Root Beer to dry, 1 coat of SW-302 Rutile Wash was brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Rutile Wash brushed more lightly over the Root Beer intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

 

 

 

 

Silver Sage over Pistachio

Interaction:
Silver Sage over Pistachio brings forth dark and light brown taupe precipitate that floats on a slightly glossy blue-green base.

Process:
3 coats of SW-202 Pistachio was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Pistachio to dry, 3 coats of SW-102 Silver Sage were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Silver Sage brushed more lightly over the Pistachio intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Olivine over Wrought Iron

Interaction:
Olivine over Wrought Iron: a brown mossy matte forms where Olivine is thicker; gets glossy were the Olivine is thinner. Feels like old industrial metal.

Process:
3 coats of SW-111 Wrought Iron was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Wrought Iron to dry, 3 coats of SW-127 Olivine were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Olivine brushed more lightly over the Wrought Iron intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Alabaster over Northern Woods

Interaction:
Alabaster over Northern Woods - what fun! Beautiful gold float where the two lightly meet (upper interaction area); gold float formation is subdued at bit where the Alabaster is more heavily applied (lower interaction area).

Process:
3 coats of SW-120 Northern Woods was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Northern Woods to dry, 3 coats of SW-106 Alabaster were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Alabaster brushed more lightly over the Northern Woods intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Frost Blue over Black Ice

Interaction:
Frost Blue over Black Ice creates a black and green metallic band. Areas of heavier application produce a flat black precipitate (upper middle part of the plate); light green metallic in areas of thinner application (seen at the bottom line of interaction)

Process:
3 coats of EL-120 Black Ice was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Black Ice to dry, 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed more lightly over the Black Ice intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Sapphire over Alabaster

Interaction:
Sapphire over Alabaster produces a matte field of light violet and bronze, with some of the bronze showing hints of green patina at the upper edge where Sapphire and Alabaster lightly meet.

Process:
3 coats of SW-106 Alabaster was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Alabaster to dry, 3 coats of SW-123 Sapphire were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Sapphire brushed more lightly over the Alabaster intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

 

 

Green Tea over Olivine

Interaction:
Green Tea over Olivine reveals a subdued and mottled matte tobacco brown, with a slightly tinged green cast.

Process:
3 coats of SW-127 Olivine was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Olivine to dry, 3 coats of SW-108 Green Tea were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Green Tea brushed more lightly over the Olivine intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

 

Northern Woods over Silver Sage

Interaction:
Northern Woods over Silver Sage develops a metallic, dark olive green dappled with taupe flecks. Underlying deep blues can be coaxed to the surface with thinner application of Northern Woods.

Process:
3 coats of SW-102 Silver Sage was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Silver Sage to dry, 3 coats of SW-120 Northern Woods were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Northern Woods brushed more lightly over the Silver Sage intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

 

Stoned Denim over Black Walnut

Interaction:
Stoned Denim over Black Walnut darkens the denim, producing deeper blues tinged with brown.

Process:
3 coats of SW-104 Black Walnut was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Black Walnut to dry, 3 coats of SW-101 Stoned Denim were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Stoned Denim brushed more lightly over the Black Walnut intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Frost Blue over Speckled Plum

Interaction:
Frost Blue over Speckled Plum brings forth deep blues that surround pockets of rust and copper.

Process:
3 coats of SW-113 Speckled Plum was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Speckled Plum to dry, 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed more lightly over the Speckled Plum intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Black Walnut over Polished Pebbles

Interaction:
Black Walnut over Polished Pebbles produces a highly reflective, tarnished gold metallic surface.

Process:
3 coats of SW-104 Black Walnut was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Black Walnut to dry, 3 coats of SW-126 Polished Pebbles were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Polished Pebbles brushed more lightly over the Black Walnut intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Pistachio over Alligator

Interaction:
Pistachio over Alligator finds translucent shades of green overcast by a blackish-green float. The crystals from Alligator create windows to view the brighter greens below.

Process:
3 coats of CG-973 Alligator was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Alligator to dry, 3 coats of SW-202 Pistachio were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Pistachio brushed more lightly over the Alligator intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Frost Blue over Malachite

Interaction:
Frost Blue over Malachite creates highly reflective, dark green metallic fields with wisps of light green-brown clouds in places where the Frost Blue is thinly applied.

Process:
3 coats of EL-122 Malachite was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Malachite to dry, 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed more lightly over the Malachite intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Cinnabar over Frost Blue

Interaction:
Cinnabar over Frost Blue does not produce as dramatic differences as the reverse (previous image). Matte reds and browns show where the glaze is thicker; glossy plum peaks out where the Cinnabar is thinner.

Process:
3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Frost Blue to dry, 3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Cinnabar brushed more lightly over the Frost Blue intersection (middle ⅓).

Frost Blue over Cinnabar

Interaction:
Frost Blue over Cinnabar leaves a blue-purple band that is heavily dotted with red caldera and grey patches.

Process:
3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Cinnabar to dry, 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed more lightly over the Cinnabar intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Cinnabar over Wrought Iron

Interaction:
Cinnabar over Wrought Iron produces a curious, darkened band of concentric circles. The development of these circle patterns (left side of plate) is greater where the Cinnabar is applied thinly.

Process:
3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Cinnabar to dry, 3 coats of SW-111 Wrought Iron were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Wrought Iron brushed more lightly over the Cinnabar intersection (middle ⅓).

Patina over White Cobblestone

Interaction:
Patina over Cobblestone. While these two glazes are primarily fired to cone 06 the Patina results, alone, are very intriguing. It runs down the rim to leave a creamy beige edge; where it pools (center of the plate) a crystalline-like green pattern develops.

Process:
3 coats of EL-123 Patina was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Patina to dry, 3 coats of SG-202 White Cobblestone were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with White Cobblestone brushed more lightly over the Patina intersection (middle ⅓).

Cinnabar over Blue Surf

Interaction:
Cinnabar over Blue Surf forms discrete blue crystals and green pools on what feels and looks reptilian skin.

Process:
3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Cinnabar to dry, 3 coats of SW-100 Blue Surf were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Blue Surf brushed more lightly over the Cinnabar intersection (middle ⅓).

Frost Blue over Maycoshino

Interaction:
Frost Blue over Maycoshino see the Frost Blue turn a glossy dark green-blue with stretches of golden matte micro-crystals forming throughout.

Process:
3 coats of SW-122 Maycoshino was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Maycoshino to dry, 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed more lightly over the Maycoshino intersection (middle ⅓).

Cinnabar over Honeycomb

Interaction:
Cinnabar over Honeycomb sees a cinnamon brown develop with creamy spots and crystals forming beneath.

Process:
3 coats of SW-117 Honeycomb was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Honeycomb to dry, 3 coats of SW-119 Cinnabar were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Cinnabar brushed more lightly over the Honeycomb intersection (middle ⅓).

Smoke over Speckled Plum

Interaction:
Smoke over Speckled Plum brings about a taupe green-brown coat with flecks of copper peering through.

Process:
3 coats of SW-121 Smoke was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Smoke to dry, 3 coats of SW-113 Speckled Plum were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Speckled Plum brushed more lightly over the Smoke intersection (middle ⅓).

Blue Frost over Copper Adventurine

Interaction:
Frost Blue over Copper Adventurine creates a finely streaked mocha haze that is glossy and translucent. Where Copper Adventurine is allowed to thin (upper left edge of plate) a beautiful dark bronze metallic forms.

 

Process:
3 coats of EL-121 Copper Adventurine was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Copper Adventurine to dry, 3 coats of SW-105 Frost Blue were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Frost Blue brushed more lightly over the Copper Adventurine intersection (middle ⅓).

Green Opal over Black Walnut

Process:
3 coats of SW-104 Black Walnut were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Black Walnut dried 3 coats of SW-253 Green Opal were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Green Opal brushed lightly over the Black Walnut intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
The Green Opal develops a fine to medium pixelation pattern with the Green Opal evolving to a bluish-green.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

Black Walnut over Green Opal

Process:
3 coats of SW-253 Green Opal were brushed on the bottom ⅔ of the plate.

After the Green Opal dried 3 coats of SW-104 Black Walnut were brushed over the top ⅔ of the plate, with Black Walnut brushed lightly over the Green Opal intersection (middle ⅓).

Interaction (middle ⅓):
Strands of gold form within sharply defined blue streaks.

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body, fired horizontally. Vertical surfaces may yield more movement and interaction.

 

Blue Surf over Green Tea

Interaction:
Blue Surf over Green Tea creates a light blue float atop of the Green Tea.

Process:

3 coats of SW-108 Green Tea was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Green Tea to dry, 3 coats of SW-100 Blue Surf were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Blue Surf brushed more lightly over the Green Tea intersection (middle ⅓).

Green Tea over Blue Surf

Interaction:
Green Tea over Blue Surf causes a green mist to form over a dappled blue field.

Process:

3 coats of SW-100 Blue Surf was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Blue Surf to dry, 3 coats of SW-108 Green Tea were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Green Tea brushed more lightly over the Blue Surf intersection (middle ⅓).

Purple Mint over Sea Salt

Interaction:
Reversing the process from the previous plate, Purple Mint over Sea Salt results in a purple float on the Sea Salt with the crystals turning into a blue ice: you can actually see depth as you would looking through ice on a frozen pond.

Process:

3 coats of SW-118 Sea Salt was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Sea Salt to dry, 3 coats of SW-125 Purple Mint were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Purple Mint brushed more lightly over the Sea Salt intersection (middle ⅓).

Cone 6 Oxidation, white stoneware body.

Sea Salt over Purple Mint

Interaction:
Sea Salt over Purple Mint pulls green tones into the Sea Salt and allows for a slightly greater expansion of the Sea Salt crystals. The crystals produced are a greenish blue.

Process:

3 coats of SW-125 Purple Mint was brushed on the top ⅔ of the plate.

Allowing for the Purple Mint to dry, 3 coats of SW-118 Sea Salt were brushed to the bottom ⅔ of the plate, with Sea Salt brushed more lightly over the Purple Mint intersection (middle ⅓).
